Description: Central Coast Wilds (CCW) is a design-grow-build ecological landscape contractor and California native plant nursery established in 1992 in Santa Cruz, California. CCW specializes in residential and commercial landscapes with an emphasis on ecological landscapes, habitat restoration and California native plants. Our landscape team has broad experience in ecological soil and pest management, integrated water management, invasive plant control and watershed restoration. Our nursery team is available for horticultural consultation and provides custom grow native plants for landscape and green building projects of all sizes. Our service area is the greater San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Working under the supervision of the Nursery Manager, the Nursery Assistant will be given specific training and ongoing supervision. He/she will be expected to exhibit a high degree of self-motivation and focus in order to complete the defined production goals. Irrigation will often comprise a majority of the work hours; patience, and attention to detail, will be crucial attributes for the applicant.

Responsibilities include:

• Nursery irrigation, fertilization, stock propagation, and record keeping

• High grading and delivering plants as needed

• Nursery maintenance & clean up

• Provide customer service assistance for walk-in nursery customers

    • Materials inventory & acquisition

Qualifications

Plant propagation and maintenance experience

Must be physically fit: able to stoop, bend, and repeatedly lift 35 lbs

A strong interest in California native plants

Willingness to work in inclement weather (raingear provided)

Ability to follow instructions and maintain detailed records

Good customer relations skills

A high degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently to complete specific tasks and meet inflexible deadlines

2-year Horticulture degree or equivalent experience desired

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Crew Foreman/LICT will work in the field to oversee crew members in order to implement ecological landscape projects. The Crew Foreman will be given specific training and ongoing supervision in order to assume various responsibilities.

Field responsibilities include:

  • Communication with project managers/administration
  • Direct the installation of irrigation systems
  • Direct the installation of plants
  • Direct maintenance operations
  • Monitoring projects in progress
  • Receive materials for projects
  • Train and oversee field assistants
  • Oversee maintenance of field tools/equipment and monthly tool inventory
  • Insure crew member safety and administer first aid, as necessary.

Administrative responsibilities include:

  • Attending weekly planning meetings
  • Submit weekly monitoring log
  • Coordinating employee work schedule and transportation
  • Documenting employee attendance & submit biweekly time sheets.

Prerequisites

  • Be a Landscape Industry Certified Technician (formerly CLT).
  • A high degree of self-motivation, and ability to work independently to complete specific tasks and meet inflexible deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to transmit instructions to crew members and make decisions in the field.
  • Five years, or more, experience in landscape installation and maintenance.
  • Previous experience managing landscape crews
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish required
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • The Landscape Foreman will need to have access to their own transportation and have a valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.  A company vehicle will be provided for many job assignments.

Performance Evaluation

The Landscape Foreman position will be compensated for those hours actually worked on a bimonthly basis. The pay scale commences at $15.00 per hour and pay increases will be evaluated quarterly. Criteria for monthly pay increases will include ability to execute all field and administrative tasks. Additional criteria include, continued education, punctuality, reliability, ability to work independently and positive relations with clients and other company employees.
